Getting a Referral If your family vet has not yet referred you to us, then please contact them in the first instance. Request a referral for your animal companion and provide them with our contact details. Most veterinarians are aware of the significant benefits of these treatment options and will happily refer you to us on request. If referral is appropriate, your family vet will then either email or fax us your animal's medical history, current treatment and the results of all relevant diagnostic tests. If either you or your vet is unsure whether referral is indicated and would like to discuss things with us first, then please do get in touch. Booking an Appointment What to Expect The first consultation involves clarifying and completing the questionnaire and giving your animal companion a complete physical examination. Once we have a clear idea of the problem, we will discuss the various treatment options available. If appropriate, the first acupuncture treatment or session on the underwater treadmill can be given there and then. Herbal medicines and/or supplements may be prescribed to be given at home. If required, you will be taught basic physical therapy, acupressure and massage techniques to use at home. We also evaluate your pet's nutritions, lifestyle, environment and relationships and make suggestions where necessary. The first consultation typically lasts 30 minutes. Follow-up consultations usually last 20 minutes, depending on the treatment required and complexity of the problems. If we are using acupuncture for pain, stiffness or weakness, the average animal requires a treatment once a week for 4 weeks to get the full benefit, as the effect builds with each treatment. We then then begin spacing out the sessions. Some animals in chronic pain may require maintenance treatments with acupuncture every 3 months or so. In cases where we don’t use acupuncture, the need for follow-up visits is assessed on a individual basis. Professional Fees We have a policy of accommodating clients with financial restrictions so that all animals are able to receive the treatment they need. If you would like your pet to benefit from the treatment, but cannot afford the fees, please feel free to discuss this with us before the first consultation. Pet Insurance |
