Acupuncture involves placing fine needles into the body at specific points. Depending on the points chosen, acupuncture can cause a wide variety of beneficial effects mediated via the nervous, endocrine, immune and vascular systems.
Acupuncture is safe to use alongside conventional treatments, and can often help reduce the dose and the side-effects of conventional medications.
Acupuncture is generally well tolerated by all animals. The needles used are all single use and sterile. Once inserted they are left in place for approximately 20 minutes. On average, patients require four weekly treatments, though some conditions will require up to six for an improvement to be seen. Thereafter, depending on the condition, maintenance treatments may be required every 1-2 months.
